Casa Mitspa is a shelter for mothers and babies at risk. The centre provides practical, emotional and spiritual support for pregnant teenagers and young mothers who have suffered abuse or neglect. There is a great need for this work in Romania, where women with unwanted pregnanices face huge pressure to abort their unborn babies. Those who continue their pregnancies often find themselves homeless and without the resources to care for their child. Casa Mitspa offers a safe place where mothers can learn how to care for babies and bring up children. The centre offers social, psychological and spiritual support for single mothers and for couples. There are also opportunities for new parents to learn key skills, such as educating children, cooking healthy meals and managing a budget. For more information on Casa Mitspa, please click here.
The centre is looking for mature Christians who have experience in caring for young children and teenagers. Please note that because of the nature of this work in caring for young, vulnerable women, and the close contact which may be required on occasion, the role would best be suited to a married couple or single woman. The role is based on a 40-hour working week, but could be negotiated depending on the age, expectations and language skills of the successful candidate(s). A bedroom is available for a single woman if she would like accommodation on-site.
The role is varied and requires the teaching and modelling of various skills. These include showing young parents how to care for babies and children, how to prepare nutricious meals and how to stimulate a child's development. The successful candidate(s) will have patience, perseverence and empathy for teenagers in difficult situations. They will be willing to act as 'surrogate grandparents' reflecting Christ's unconditional love as they model good parenting. Discipleship and good teamwork are also key to this role. Candidates should be willing to learn conversational Romanian during their mission placement. For a full description of the qualities, skills and experience desired, please contact your local ECM office.
