Have you ever thought you need to be very special to be used by the Lord? He loves to work through simple people, sometimes in unexpected ways.
Born in the Netherlands, Kikke was a somewhat shy teenager with no particular gift for languages. At secondary school, she actually needed to repeat one class due to her low grades – the worst being for English.
Then God sent her to university, where she got a master’s degree in linguistics and she ended up learning nineteen languages. Now she can only speak about half of them, but it is a fun example of how God is not limited by our weaknesses.
Kikke has worked as a linguist, with a heart for youth in particular, for over twenty years among minority people groups in Europe and Asia.
Activities she was involved in, include teaching orphanage kids how to brush their teeth, helping found Scouting in Saami languages, doing language research in Siberia and Bible translation in Lapland, as well as teaching Finnish to Iraqi and Ukrainian refugees.
She has lived in eight countries, seven in Europe (Western, Northern and Eastern Europe) in temperatures ranging from -38 to +45 degrees Celsius.
Kikke is preparing to temporarily serve in a mobiliser’s role for ECM in both Australia and New Zealand. She will be sharing at churches and Bible colleges etc. on the work God is doing in Europe through ECM.
